CJ, US Ambassador Discuss Human Rights

KAMPALA: The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Bart M. Katureebe, held a meeting with H.E Deborah Malac, the US Ambassador to Uganda in the CJ's Chambers at the High Court in Kampala.
The two discussed matters of mutual interest along the areas of human rights, rule of law, independence of the Judiciary, due process and accountability by institutions when people's rights are abused.
They further discussed budgeting priority by government which marginalizes the investigation and adjudication functions.
They noted that under-resourcing the Judiciary has serious negative impact on the role of the Judiciary in promoting investment and economic development.
They explored development cooperation particularly with Pepperdine University,International Justice Mission and World Bank and its role in building the capacity of the Judiciary to deliver a more efficient and effective administration of justice.
The meeting was attended by Shes Kimberley Harrington, Political Counsel at US Embassy as well as the Chief Justice's Principal Legal Secretary, HW Boniface Wamala.
